Timing is Right in the Dominican
Following the example of Panama and Belize, the Dominican
Republic enacted in 2007 a law aimed at attracting foreign
residence with a fast track residency system with simplified
paperwork, all to be done within 45 days.
It also allows the import of duty-free household goods and
tax breaks including reductions on motor vehicle taxes and
an exemption on transfer taxes for the first purchase of
local real estate.

Living at Casa del Lago means earning tax
breaks.
The law also provides a 50 percent reduction on taxes on
mortgages, a 50 percent reduction on the annual property
tax, exemption on taxes on dividends and interest, and a 50
percent reduction on capital gains taxes.

About the Area
Casa del Lago is a world away but only two hours by plane from
Miami, four hours from New York, and nine hours from major
cities in Western Europe.
Dominican culture reflects a spirited and gracious people.
The Dominicans consider themselves more Latin American than
Caribbean. Elements of the native Taino, Spanish colonists,
and African heritage create a distinctive celebration of
life music and art.
Casa de Campo, ranked among the 100 best golf courses in the
world, is an hour’s drive from Casa del Lago, as are Isla
Saona, Parque Nacional del Este and the artists’ village of
Altos de Chavon.

The area is rich with indigenous coral rock formations.
Just 45 minutes from the community is Santo Domingo, where
you will find the Zona Colonial, with its historic
architecture, European streetscape, cafes, casinos, discos
and sophisticated retail boutiques. Events there include the
annual Carnival and Jazz Festival.
Restoration of Santo Domingo public buildings was initiated
by the government to celebrate the 500th anniversary of
Columbus' arrival in the Americas. Dozens of forts,
churches, plazas, parks and palaces have been restored to
their 16th-century condition.
Most can be easily explored on foot. The stunning Colonial
Zone is what sets Santo Domingo apart. Standing majestically
on the west bank of the Ozama River is the original walled
city, with many of the ornate Renaissance-style buildings.
A good place for strolling is the Malecon, the main
waterfront street where the city's historical section ends
and the tourist area begins. Outdoor cafes, resort hotels
and boutiques line the street, and there's always someone
dancing to merengue and bachata.
