The Evolution of a World-Class Ranch

Lakewood Ranch got its start in the early part of the last century when John Schroeder of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, began to assemble the land known today as the Schroeder-Manatee Ranch (SMR). An owner of furniture, turpentine, milling and lumber businesses, Schroeder selected this land for its abundant natural resources and beauty. Agriculture, cattle ranching, vegetable and citrus farming, timber, turf and shell mining and other businesses were added later.

Legacy Course
Arnold Palmer's design team created 54 holes.

In 1994, after 10 years of planning and approvals, real estate development was added into the mix with the introduction of Lakewood Ranch.

"The historic presence and careful dedication to the land is a natural comfort for prospective homebuyers," say Ranch executives. "The strength of a great American family, combined with a history of successful land management and a strong financial plan, using Community Development Districts, make Lakewood Ranch a sound investment and a great place to live."

Clubhouse

Lakewood Ranch is located on the Sarasota/Manatee county line on Florida's west coast. Its proximity to I-75 (exits 213, 217 and 220) makes it the perfect location to reach other Florida destinations north, south, east or west. There is easy access to two international airports, as well.

Fitness Center
The fitness facility is a beautiful environment for working out.

A Vibrant Area
A world-class resort and year-round vacation destination, the Lakewood Ranch area offers famous white sand beaches, gourmet restaurants and first-rate cultural amenities such as the Ringling Museum, Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, FSU/Asolo Center for the Performing Arts, Selby Botanical Gardens, Mote Aquarium and so much more.

Sports fans enjoy baseball spring training with the Cincinnati Reds in Sarasota, Pittsburgh Pirates in Manatee and the Yankees and Devil Rays in Tampa. Professional hockey, football and soccer are also big events during their respective playing seasons.

Lakewood Ranch is one of those rare places that provide all of the essential elements for a wonderful life. Beautiful homes, shops filled with all one needs and wants, job opportunities, and places to play and have fun with neighbors and friends.

Aquatics
The fitness center features two pools.

With half the land set aside for recreation and open space, the selection of activities is virtually endless. Forty-five holes of championship golf designed by Arnold Palmer's design team include 18 daily-fee and 36 private holes at a grand private country club that also includes tennis, swimming and fitness.

Open to all are the community parks and nature preserves with a wealth of opportunities for fun. Neighborhood lakes vary in size from small fishing ponds to a 160-acre body of water that stretches nearly a mile from end to end.

Parks
Parks and pathways run throughout the property.

Residents can walk, jog, bike, scooter, or blade from one place to the next on miles of connecting sidewalks and pathways. These pathways link to five, eight, and 12-foot sidewalks along throughways and common areas.

In addition, soft paths of mulch or grass connect to the sidewalk systems leading to nature areas, waterways, lakes and preserves. Special features such as wooden bridges and interpretive stations enhance the experience.

The trail system also leads to schools, retail and employment areas to provide a convenient and practical transportation alternative to using an automobile. Trails are already in place in the residential villages, Town Center and Corporate Park .

Tennis
Kids enjoy group tennis lessons.

Over the next few years, as the full system is completed, Lakewood Ranch will boast one of the most extensive master trail systems anywhere.

Real Estate Options
Lakewood Ranch features a variety of neighborhoods with prices ranging from the $400,000s to $1 million and up.

Please note that the following neighborhoods are sold out:

  • Summerfield Village, single-family homes
  • Riverwalk Village, single-family neighborhood
  • Edgewater Village, custom single-family homes and condominiums

Information Center
The Information Center is open and ready to meet visitors.

Excellent Schools Nearby
From elementary school through college, residents and their families are assured that top quality learning opportunities will be available at home and nearby.

Some of the county's best public schools are within walking distance of the master-planned community. A special thoroughfare meanders through tall pines to provide convenient access to Braden River Elementary and Braden River Middle Schools.

Lakewood Ranch High School opened in 1998 as the first high school to be built as such in Manatee County. This state-of-the-art facility has become a landmark school for others to follow. McNeal Elementary just opened in 2003 and a new middle school will open in the fall of 2004.

The Out-of-Door Academy, a prestigious private school since 1924, opened its upper school campus at Lakewood Ranch in 1997, which includes middle and high school classes.

Fertile Ground for Businesses & Services
The Lakewood Ranch business component includes Class A office, light industrial, retail and professional spaces. In addition, throughout the master plan there are standards that ensure the infrastructure, architecture and landscaping will be of the highest quality and will be maintained at the same level of excellence.

Polo event
Polo is a source of entertainment on and off the field.

The three commercial park locations are designed on and around the same historic Florida ranch land as the residential homes, enriched by wetlands, preserves and lakes. With a master plan that requires fifty percent of all property to be left as open or recreational space, businesses can select locations from within a multitude of beautiful campus-like settings

Area shopping and services conveniently provide everything needed to live from day to day and a new Town Center is at the heart of this master-planned community.

The Lakewood Ranch Medical Center is a 32-acre medical campus which includes a 120-bed hospital. The medical campus offers 60,000 square feet devoted to emergency care, medical offices and diagnostic center.
