Scotch Hall Preserve
Merry Hill, North Carolina
|
Along the vast, sparkling estuary that is Albemarle Sound, you | |
can enjoy a healthy, family-centered lifestyle with all
the amenities. |
Description
Scotch Hall Preserve is a master-planned,
upscale enclave for second-home and pre-retirement buyers.
Occupying a 900-acre cape bounded by the Albemarle Sound, the
community is equally attractive to golfers and boating
enthusiasts.
The community’s private golf course was
named by Golf Digest as America’s Ninth Best New Private Course
in 2009. This 7,254-yard layout is an Arnold Palmer Signature
design, with several holes paralleling the sound and scenic
Salmon Creek.

Scotch Hall Preserve offers an award-winning Arnold
Palmer course.
Nick Cassini, Director of Golf
Recently, the community hired former Nationwide, PGA and European Tour professional and World No. 1 Amateur (as ranked by Golfweek) Nick Cassini as Director of Golf. Cassini was on the 1999 NCAA Championship Team and played on the Nationwide Tour, PGA TOUR and European Tour until 2006.
Cassini’s vast playing experience allows him to see the community’s Arnold Palmer Signature course through the eyes of both the amateur and the professional:
"Most courses have around fourteen memorable and four forgettable holes,” he says. “The first time I played Scotch Hall Preserve, what struck me was that Arnold Palmer had created eighteen distinctly memorable holes. Palmer basically had a blank canvas--a mile of level shoreline--to work with, which I'd imagine is pretty rare. It’s a fantastic course, I wouldn’t change anything about it."
Cassini manages Scotch Hall Preserve’s golf operations and member events, including working with course superintendent David Bentley to keep the course polished for members and their guests and for introducing prospective members to the course.
Abundant Water Activities
You can never quench your love of the
water. The brackish blue water of the Albemarle Sound brings
great fishing and crabbing opportunities for the whole family
right to your doorstep.
The planned Family Club Retreat will offer
a swimming pool, sports lawn, pavilion grill, and a bathhouse.
And the proposed full-service clubhouse will be the perfect
setting for family and social events from wine tastings to
wedding receptions.

waters of the Sound, the Chowan River and Salmon Creek—for
residents with watercraft from kayaks and sailboats to inboard
cruisers.

The marina has room for 107 boats.
The proposed Scotch Hall Preserve Shooting
Club will be a resident member’s place to practice marksmanship
and enjoy shooting sports in a safe environment.
An Outdoor Pursuits program is designed for
members to take advantage of the abundance of outdoor
recreational and educational opportunities in the surrounding

About the Area
The community is well situated, equidistant from historic Windsor, the seat
of Bertie County, and the picturesque and
celebrated town of Edenton, seat of Chowan
County.
Surrounding Scotch Hall Preserve are stands
of cypress, yellow pine and oak trees on a bluff overlooking the
deep-blue expanse of the Albemarle Sound, which is one of the
largest estuaries in the U.S., second only to the
Chesapeake Bay.
The region, North Carolina's Inner Banks,
are
known for scenic brilliance and comfortable year-round climate,
as well as the outdoor recreation and relaxed lifestyle.

Boardwalks like these allow outdoor enthusiasts to get close
to nature.
Here in the early 1600's, in what is now the
Merry Hill area of Bertie County, were settlements of British
pilgrims that would form the original Colony and, ultimately,
the State of North Carolina.
The North Carolina Outer Banks are 80 miles
to the east and offer incredible opportunities for memorable
beach excursions, world-class surf fishing and other activities.
